Review of 2016

Review of 2016

So, it's that time of year again, when we wonder how this year has gone so quickly and make an early New Year's resolution to try and catch up with more friends and family next year.  But in the meantime, here's a quick update on what we've been up to in 2016.

In January we visited Madame Tussaud's in London and had fun spotting all the celebs.

February was a pretty quiet month but Fee's mum came to stay and we had a nice few days with her.

March was Adam's 9th birthday; he celebrated by having a 'gaming' party with his friends.

April saw Lucy star as Violet Beauregarde in her drama school production of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' which was fantastic. She really enjoyed blowing up like a giant blueberry in her inflatable suit!

We also had a lovely day out at Longleat Safari park on our way back from Bristol.

In May, Adam played his first cricket match for Biggleswade Town Cricket Club's Under 10s team.  He really enjoyed playing for the team this year and was very proud to receive the 'Players' player award' at the end of the season.

Another weekend in May saw us spending a great (albeit freezing cold) weekend at Family Cub Camp, building fires and playing numerous games of dodgeball to keep warm.

In June we took the kids on their first proper kayak trip - no white water yet but a nice, gentle paddle along the River Thames.  We all enjoyed looking at the millionaires' houses along the riverbank and watching several kites swooping above us.

July was a busy month with Fee's canoe polo team playing at the Hull International tournament, a great day out at the Bedford River Festival and sports days at both the kids' schools.

Adam finished his time at Lower School by starring in his school play 'Porridge' as Private Detective, Jack Spratt.' It was a great show to watch as there were lots of comedy lines and some fab songs.

In August, Lucy and Adam spent a few days with Fee's mum and
dad whilst Fee and Bri had 2 nights in Cornwall.  We visited
the Lost Gardens of Helligan and the Eden Project, where we also
had a go on the giant zipwire over the top of the geodes, which was amazing!

We then spent an enjoyable 10 days in France - 2 days in Normandy visiting the Normandy beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry, followed by a week at a camp-site in the Vendée region with the most amazing swimming pool.  One of our favourite moments was having a BBQ on the deserted, unspoilt beach one evening.

September was back to school: year 7 for Lucy and year 5 (start of Middle School ) for Adam. Lucy celebrated her 12th birthday by having a camping party in the garden with some of her friends.  In true British style, it bucketed down with rain all evening, but it didn't dampen the girls' spirits; they managed to toast a few marshmallows under the gazebo and were still singing songs in the tent at gone midnight.

The following weekend, Fee and Bri competed in the National Interclub Canoe Slalom championships and helped their club to win the Slalom Sports trophy back again.

October and November were fairly quiet months, apart from a couple of days in Bristol, a day trip to the Tower of London and a friend's 50th party with a James Bond theme!

And now we're in the run up to Christmas. This morning Lucy sang at our local airfield, where Santa was flying in for a special visit and next week is Adam's music school Christmas concert.

We're off to Bristol for Christmas this year.  Whatever you are doing, we hope you have a lovely festive season and may 2017 bring you lots of good health and happiness.

Lots of love from

Fee, Brian, Lucy and Adam.
